GlassKit

Made for photographers who still work on film.

GlassKit is a set of iPhone and iPad apps for professional image-making. A frame of film cannot be taken back, and format, light, development and framing all have to be decided before you can see the result. GlassKit turns those judgements — normally made by experience and estimate — into something you can see and verify on the spot, and keeps a full record of how you got there. Each app solves one thing, sitting quietly beside the camera, the enlarger and the framing bench — for film photographers, large format shooters and darkroom workers. FieldGlass carries the same judgement out to location scouts and film sets: a built-in library of cine and still cameras and lenses lets directors and cinematographers settle camera position, lens and aspect ratio before anything is set up.

An independent studio.

ArgentGlass Lab is an independent studio, quietly maintained for the long term. The name comes from photographie argentique — the French term for silver-based film photography. What the six apps really share is one way of thinking about format, light and optics: five go deep into film and the darkroom, and FieldGlass takes the same thinking onto location scouts and film sets.
