About MeterGlass
MeterGlass is a simple and intuitive light meter app designed for film photographers. It uses your device's camera to measure ambient light and calculate exposure settings in real time.
How to Use
- Open the app, grant camera access, and set your film ISO (shown in red until confirmed).
- Average metering: point at the scene and read; choose continuous or single-shot, with AE-L lock.
- Metering grid: in average metering, turn on a 9- or 16-cell overlay and tap a cell to use it as the reading reference.
- Spot metering: switch to Spot and tap where you want to meter. Choose a 1°, 1.5° or 3° acceptance angle, and pinch to zoom for tighter framing.
- Zone System: enter Zone mode, pick a film type (black-and-white negative, colour negative or slide), then capture shadow, highlight and any further points. If highlights would clip, capture may briefly darken the exposure — shown as E2 or E4. Place readings on the zone strip, review contrast and N± development suggestions, and optionally share a metering card for the session.
- Film formats: pick a format (135 up to 8x10) at the bottom left — the mask shows your composition, displays the equivalent focal length, and metering respects the crop. Portrait/landscape framing supported.
- Filters & bellows: enter filter factors or bellows extension compensation in Settings; they are folded into the suggested exposure automatically.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does MeterGlass need camera access?
MeterGlass uses the camera sensor to measure the light intensity of your scene. The app does not take photos or record videos — the camera is used solely for real-time metering. In Zone System mode you can, at your own request, generate a metering record image that includes the viewfinder frame, and choose to save or share it — entirely under your control.
Why does MeterGlass ask for photo library access?
Only when you share a Zone System metering card and choose “Save Image” in the system share sheet. MeterGlass requests add-only access: it can only add the image you chose to save, and cannot read or browse your photo library.
How do I calibrate the meter?
Go to Settings > Metering Calibration. Aim at an 18% gray card, or compare against a meter you trust, and fine-tune the reading in 0.1 EV steps until they match. Calibration applies to both average and spot metering. Note: calibration constants differ slightly between meter brands (e.g. Pentax vs Sekonic differ by about 1/6 stop) — this is normal.
How accurate is the metering?
MeterGlass provides reliable readings suitable for film photography. Results may vary slightly depending on your device model and lighting conditions. You can calibrate the meter in Settings, and we recommend bracketing your exposures for critical shots.
What do E, E2 and E4 mean?
During Zone capture MeterGlass may briefly darken the exposure so that bright highlights stay measurable; the number is roughly how many stops it pulled down. The measurement is still made on your device, and nothing is uploaded.
Why does the frozen Zone preview look slightly dark?
The preview is deliberately left about a stop short of a full correction, so that highlights you have just recovered do not read as blown-out white on screen. It does not affect the measured values.
Why can't I select a grid cell?
The grid is selectable in average metering only. Cells clamped at the limits of the range — shown with ≥ or ≤ — cannot be used as a reading reference.
The app shows a black screen / camera won't start
Please check the following:
- Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and make sure MeterGlass has permission enabled.
- Restart the app.
- Restart your device if the issue persists.
Can I use MeterGlass without an internet connection?
Yes. MeterGlass works entirely offline — no internet connection is needed.
How do I reset my settings?
Deleting and reinstalling the app will reset all preferences to their default values.

- 画幅与焦距：左下角可选择胶片画幅（135 至 8x10），遮幅显示构图并显示等效焦距，遮幅内测光；支持横竖构图切换。
- 滤镜与皮腔：在设置中输入滤镜系数或皮腔延伸补偿，会自动计入曝光组合建议。
常见问题
为什么 MeterGlass 需要相机权限？
MeterGlass 使用相机传感器来测量场景的光线强度。应用不拍摄照片、不录制视频，相机仅用于实时测光。在 Zone System 模式下，您可以主动生成一张包含取景画面的测光记录图并选择保存或分享——这完全由您控制。
为什么 MeterGlass 会请求照片权限？
仅当您在 Zone System 模式下分享测光记录图、并在系统分享面板中选择“存储图像”时才会用到。MeterGlass 申请的是“仅添加照片”权限：只能保存您选择的这张图片，无法读取或浏览您的相册。
如何校准测光读数？
在 设置 > 测光校准 中，对准 18% 灰卡或与您信任的测光表对比，用 0.1 EV 步进微调读数直至一致。校准同时作用于平均测光与点测光。注：不同品牌测光表标定常数略有差异（如 Pentax 与 Sekonic 约相差 1/6 档），属正常现象。
测光准确吗？
MeterGlass 提供适用于胶片摄影的可靠读数。结果可能因设备型号和光线条件略有差异。您可以在设置中校准测光表，建议在关键拍摄时进行包围曝光。
E、E2、E4 是什么意思？
Zone 采集时，MeterGlass 可能短暂压低曝光，以保住高光的可测量性；数字大致表示压低了几档。测量仍在设备本机完成，不会上传任何内容。
为什么冻结的 Zone 预览看起来偏暗？
预览刻意保留了约一档不补满，避免刚救回的高光在屏幕上又变成死白。这不影响实际测得的数值。
为什么有的网格格子选不中？
网格仅在平均测光下可选。处于量程钳位的格子（显示 ≥ 或 ≤）不能作为读数基准。
应用显示黑屏 / 相机无法启动
请检查以下事项：
- 前往 设置 > 隐私与安全性 > 相机，确保 MeterGlass 的权限已开启。
- 重启应用。
- 如问题持续，请重启设备。
没有网络可以使用吗？
可以。MeterGlass 完全离线运行，无需网络连接。
如何重置设置？
删除并重新安装应用即可将所有设置恢复为默认值。
