TimerGlass Support / TimerGlass

TimerGlass is a field companion for film photographers. It calculates reciprocity-corrected exposure times for 88 film stocks (with ND/GND/CPL/color/center-ND filters, custom filters, and bellows compensation), designs and verifies pinhole cameras with Sunny-16 exposure estimation, and runs a long-exposure timer with Lock Screen / Dynamic Island Live Activities. You can also view each film's reciprocity curve and share exposure settings as vintage-style cards. Settings cover appearance including Dark Mode, an optional hand-off to the companion MeterGlass app, and local export and import of your history and custom films.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate corrected exposure time?

Select your film stock, set the metered exposure time, optionally add filters and bellows compensation, and the corrected time is displayed automatically. Graduated ND (GND) filters are listed for reference but do not add to whole-frame exposure — meter the clear half as usual.

My film is not in the list. What should I do?

Go to Settings > Custom Films to add your own film with a custom reciprocity correction factor (P value) or lookup table. If you know the P value from the film's data sheet, enter it there.

How accurate is the calculation?

TimerGlass follows the manufacturer's own datasheets first, and many reciprocity curves were rebuilt directly from those manuals. Films published as a table are interpolated logarithmically, and the app flags a result that falls outside the range the manufacturer actually tested. Figures may differ slightly from other apps because interpolation methods differ; in practice the difference is negligible.

Does the app work offline?

Calculating, timing and storing your data all work with no network connection. A few things you start yourself can leave the app — opening the companion MeterGlass app, or an App Store page — but nothing is ever uploaded.

How do I change the language?

Go to Settings > Language. You can choose from English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, German, or French. You can also follow your system language setting.

How does the timer work with the shutter?

Tapping “Set Timer” loads the exposure but does not start counting. Switch to the Timer tab and tap the large start button at the moment you open the shutter, so the countdown matches your actual exposure. Stopping requires a one-second hold to prevent accidental taps. You can also set a duration directly on the Timer tab and start it against the shutter without going through the calculator.

Why did I get a notification after the timer finished?

If you are away from your phone when a long exposure ends, TimerGlass sends a completion alert plus follow-up reminders so you don't forget to close the shutter. They are cancelled automatically once you return to the app.

My filter is not in the list. What should I do?

In the filter picker, scroll to the “Custom” section and add your own filter with its measured light loss in stops (useful for variable NDs or old filters that differ from their marked values).

How do I share an exposure?

Tap the small share icon next to a result (calculator, pinhole tool, or history detail). You'll see a preview of a vintage-style card that you can share or save to Photos.

Can I back up my history and custom films?

Yes. In Settings you can export and import your exposure history and custom films as local files. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

What is the MeterGlass button?

MeterGlass is an optional companion light meter from the same studio. TimerGlass can hand off your film's ISO to it, and a measured time can come back to the calculator. Both apps work fine on their own; if MeterGlass is not installed, the link opens its App Store page.

How do I switch to Dark Mode?

Settings → Appearance, then choose System, Light or Dark. The change takes effect immediately.

System Requirements

iOS 17.0 or later. iPhone and iPad.
